Tinariwen is a Grammy Award-winning group of Tuareg musicians from the Sahara Desert region of northern Mali. The show in Copenhagen started with a big crowd wondering what’s gonna happen on stage today. I mean some of them knew Tinariwen but I talk to people, and out of ten people at least eight said that they don’t know the band but they came to see the show because of a friend. Well I went to a nice place to enjoy the show but some barely twenty years old started yelling on me while his girlfriend pretend to not see who’s fault was it, he was yelling me for taking a free spot. I was in super nice mood so for the first time in my life, I walked away and found a better crowd :). From beginning to the end I witnessed this gradual mood change in the hall. People were curious about the band, of course some like my batch..we were making that noise but I mean I could see some people just staring at the band with no smile on their face. But yes in the end Tinariwen had everyone dancing crazy, the percussion and sound of people stumping the dance floor with shoes gave a unique sensation to the show.
The show was very successful and all of the new Vinyls were sold pretty fast, we could not get one. I had privilege to meet with three of the band members and I could not wait to take their t-shirt with sleek logo and autographs :). I loved the last performance with accoustic guitars and oh yes they left in the end…show was over but then we kept making noise, so they came back and went acoustic, Fantastic.
I will definitely recommend you to attend Tinariwen’s shows and catch them on tour, these guys are pros. I grew up in Libya so there’s something for me in this sort of music.
